About Kimberly Nguyen

I don't fit into your typical tech professional box. In the beginning of my career at Microsoft, I spent half of it building software products for Microsoft and the other half recruiting the best and the brightest engineering students to build those software products for Microsoft. I took some time away from private tech to serve as the UW CSE's first ever Career Counselor where I empowered students to chase their dreams, no matter what they want to build or where they want to build it. Now I am constructing a University Program from the ground up at F5 Networks as we transform from a hardware focused to software engineering focused company. As an engineer with degrees in both computer engineering and electrical engineering, I gravitate towards program/product management. I like to think about why and what to build vs. exactly how to build it. I believe in data driven decision making, strong empathy for your customer and consistent, clear communication with coworkers. When we're on the same team, we'll get shit done and we'll have a damn good time doing it.As a recruiter, I love to help students help themselves. I strongly prefer the university space and roles where I am interacting with candidates face-to-face. I care about diversity and inclusion beyond percentages and pie charts. I am passionate about helping managers understand how to grow and retain millennial+genZ talent. When I'm recruiting for your company, your candidates will feel their experience was compassionate, transparent and efficient. As a student professional specializing in career services, I prepare students for professional life after academia. I am here to slay impostor syndrome, help students articulate their true skills, interests and passions and formulate a game plan for a successful recruiting season. I want to ensure that students have fair access to the incredible array of opportunities in the tech industry. When I'm done with a 1:1 with a student, they will feel empowered to advocate for themselves.I'm still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up but I know this for sure- I believe in putting people first and I am most comfortable in a work place when I am able to build strong communities and cultivate warm, welcoming work environments.

Proud member of the (super awesome) Office Engineering team. My team works on the automated testing service that is used by 6000+ developers in Office to test and validate their code changes. I drive customer requests for configuration environments and new feature requests for our system. I love having customers that sit right down the hallway from me- when they need something, they know where to find me! Currently staying busy by tackling cross-platform efforts for all of Office.Due to my abundance of optimistic energy, I'm also the unofficial team mascot for Office Engineering. I keep morale high by passing out valentine's cards and orchestrating office Easter egg hunts for my 100+ person team.In addition, I'm a seasonal intern wrangler. I organize epic events for interns during the summer. My favorite events include a 100+ intern river float on the Snoqualmie River (everyone had a life jacket!), a real-life Hunger Games event (which included a cornucopia filled with nerf guns, a wolf pack made up of full time employees and a SMS cannon system) and a summer picnic that included kite flying and ice blocking at Gasworks (fun was had by all!).

I was a crusader for putting students first and making computer science as straightforward as possible. I love teaching and hope to return to it someday.
