About Hemanth Kappanna, Phd.
Internationally skilled executive engineer with hands on experience from concept to final product in diesel engine technologies, that are employed to meet customer requirements while complying to challenging emissions and OBD regulations. Took my executive skills from Mercedes-Benz R&D India to join Mercedes-Benz R&D North America working in Regulatory Affairs and Compliance Division. Currently working on certifying batteries and it's components to the existing OBD II regulations, also preparing to meet the future ACC II regulatory requirements. As a Deputy General Manager, my team of engineers, located across India worked closely with German counterparts on the life cycle management (LCM) projects of diesel base engines and, it's components. Among several of my teams, some were involved in testing engines for durability and made sure the engines were tested to the same standard as in Germany, but with higher efficiency and reduced costs. Simultaneously my other team, concentrated on delivering the results of transmission component testing, which was carried out in India for the global product portfolio. My role as a DGM, included another team of data analysis engineers who were involved in deriving insights from large amounts of data collected on durability fleet and calibration development vehicles. The goal is to develop models in pinpointing early failures of components and, identifying signals that play a significant role in effective calibration of features. My team was involved in troubleshooting issues ranging from vehicle performance to homologation for emissions. Proud to say, my team is agile, and connected across several departments, while they filled the gap between the digital side of the design and, hardware. We worked closely with Germany in calibrating and validating the vehicles at the highest motorable altitudes in the world, which is found only in India. As a leader, I spent my time motivating the team, making sure to bring the best out of them. We worked on projects that are engaging and made the team know how they are an integral part of Mercedes Benz, sold worldwide. I also take part in creating both department and team level strategies looking for future business opportunities where the team can add value. The goal for them, is to think outside of the box in bringing innovative ideas to life in the form of new projects. These exercises involved teaming with peers, first level managers, and technical experts, in working on project ideas and converting them into a commercially viable business.
Listed skills include Testing, Engineering, Automotive, Six Sigma, and 29 others.
