I have a Biomedical Engineering degree from the University of Victoria. Biomedical Engineering is a program of heavy cross training in Mechanical and Electrical engineering as well as Biology, Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology. I feel my academic and professional experience have provided me with the knowledge and skills to be a strong candidate to be a member of any team. Through my time with the BIODEV student team, the development of an Honors Thesis project and a Master’s project, I have intimate knowledge of the R&D process having designed and built prototypes for many projects. The primary project pursued during my tenure as President of the BIODEV team was an emergency response vitals monitoring cuff. I did the research and much of the prototyping of the case, circuit board and programming the sensors. The planning, assembly and troubleshooting of digital electro-mechanical servo systems has been the corner stone for my Honors and Masters project, an exoskeleton arm for stroke rehab. Troubleshooting the individual components of the microcontroller, circuit board and EMG and position sensors have developed an outside-the-box attention to detail and an ability to maintain off the shelf components when small problems arise. As a Commercial Truck Driver and HIAB Crane Operator, I have developed excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills imperative to maintaining workplace safety. Operating an articulated crane on busy or empty job sites has helped maintain a strong regard for self-motivation and independent task management. Detailed logs of each job, the work environment, and the maintenance and performance of the truck/crane unit were also critical skills that demanded strong attention to detail. A key lesson learned has been to talk to the Tradesmen that know the equipment and listen to the advice they give.
