Hi! My name is Henry, and I’m a graduate student focused on combining rigorous statistical methods and state of the art machine learning tools to uncover the information latent in big data.My undergraduate degree was in mechatronics engineering; think industrial robotics. I worked for two years as a software and controls engineer, combining software development and system design for complex optimization and automation problems in sawmills across America.Once I realized that the software side was where my passion truly lay, I left my job to focus full time on the career switch. This degree at the University of Michigan has been an amazing chance to grow my skills and learn from their award winning faculty. In addition, I started my own consulting company and have helped create custom data analytics and deep learning solutions for a number of different clients.To be honest, I just love coding! Since writing my first sudoku solver in undergrad, I’ve been captivated by the incredible power and versatility of this structured logic. Now, as I explore the potential of deep learning and scalable cloud computing, the sense of magic has only grown.I am currently looking for full-time employment as a data scientist or similar in the Portland area (although I’m also open to remote work!).
