This university work placement was an exciting opportunity to engage with a broad range of work, including:- Writing a Terminal User Interface diagnostic tool to monitor captured data.- Using the Nix environment / programming language to manage project dependencies, ensuring compatibility.- Writing and updating tools to report on digitiser statistics via the OpenMetrics standard.- Using GitHub Continuous Integration to automate the workflow and build process.- Writing documentation for new tools using Markdown.Along the way I was introduced to new technologies, namely:- Rust: the main language used in the project.- Nix and Cargo: for managing package dependencies.- Apache Kafka and Redpanda: to handle event streaming.- FlatBuffers: An efficient protocol for data serialisation.
