As an online maths and programming tutor for MyTutor, my role is to help students achieve their target grades. My main responsibilities include structuring lessons in such a way that benefits the student and writing a lesson report for the parent afterwards, detailing the topics that were covered in the lesson and what the student needs to work on.

This university work placement was an exciting opportunity to engage with a broad range of work, including:- Writing a Terminal User Interface diagnostic tool to monitor captured data.- Using the Nix environment / programming language to manage project dependencies, ensuring compatibility.- Writing and updating tools to report on digitiser statistics via the OpenMetrics standard.- Using GitHub Continuous Integration to automate the workflow and build process.- Writing documentation for new tools using Markdown.Along the way I was introduced to new technologies, namely:- Rust: the main language used in the project.- Nix and Cargo: for managing package dependencies.- Apache Kafka and Redpanda: to handle event streaming.- FlatBuffers: An efficient protocol for data serialisation.

Over the summer holidays, I taught a variety of tech courses to children ranging in ages from 7 - 16 who were interested in programming and technology. My main responsibilities included teaching a set curriculum to a class of students, structuring lessons to make learning fun and engaging, giving extra support to students who were less confident with the concepts covered and coordinating with other tutors to deliver an overall positive and enjoyable experience. Among these courses was an introductory Python course where students were able to develop their programming skills through creating games. As part of the training, I took a course in first aid where I learnt about life-saving measures and general safety knowledge.
