The Research and Engineering Competency provides technical support to the Training Systems Divisions Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and Externally Directed Teams (EDTs), including training systems research and development; front-end training systems analyses and evaluation; specification and development of courseware; technical specification, development monitoring and testing of training systems acquired under contract; and logistical and life cycle support of fielded training systems. The competency provides this support for platforms, weapons, and related support systems operated by Naval Aviation, the Marine Corps, Surface and Undersea Forces, the United States Coast Guard, the Army's Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI), and other services and organizations. The competency exists to provide technical expertise and products for the acquisition of complex training systems, as well as in-house research and development to develop technologies for existing and future training systems and to maintain technical expertise within the competency.
