We have so many tech solutions, and yet so few solutions for old tech.That’s why I started recycling electronics. With devices moving in and out of our hands and workplaces constantly, we need efficient, low-cost, and environmentally safe ways to turn old into new. After graduating from Kenyon College, I knew that my ideal job would be partially hands-on and partially working with institutions to enact change. Part of my week still makes me feel like I’m a kid, tinkering with electronics with my dad. The other part of my week reassures me that we’re headed for a future with less e-waste in it. I coordinate with the public, plus institutions of any size, to ensure that their old tech finds a new user or becomes material for the next innovation. My goal is to create constantly-evolving systems to improve the way the world recycles e-waste. With better systems, networks, procedures, and guide-rails to follow, e-waste becomes an asset instead of a liability. When not tinkering with or talking about e-waste, my passion for technology and the environment typically leads me to photovoltaics; whether it’s designing small off-grid systems, or assisting the development of utility-scale power plants. There is nothing more exciting than tomorrow’s energy solutions.
