About Henry Fox

To summarize myself in a few words, I would have to say that I genuinely love helping people. My field of Computer Science, at its core, is pure creation. Being able to take part in the massive technological advancements in modern society is truly a thrilling experience. There are so many people in the world who absolutely depend on computers but may not know the first thing about how it works internally. To some it may be a magical box that helps them in everyday life. Computers and their software are so incredibly powerful and life changing in an ever increasing amount of ways that everyone should have the opportunity to be exposed to them. Computer Scientists are those that create this technological world and we'll be the ones to expand it.To have had the privilege of working with such wonderfully smart people, at an amazing company that supports the very structure of our modern world, and personally grow as a person through these relationships has been nothing short of awe inspiring to me. I love that this vast community of passionate creators can come together and work to create something useful, something creative, something fun, or simply just something incredible. This passion is what drives me to continue creating, to continue innovating, to continue working as hard as I possibly can to improve the lives around me in any way possible. Even if what I create is something that helps a small percentage of people, or goes unnoticed and unused at large, just knowing that I was able to help somebody puts a smile on my face and, hopefully, one on theirs too.Our passion for a topic should be as boundless as the possibilities it contains.

  • Penn State University

Penn State University Oct 2012 - May 2014
    Penn State University
Rescom, which stands for Residential Computing, is an IT Help Desk for on campus students at Penn State. I managed and trained new Rescom Technicians who perform tasks such as assisting students with their internet connections, virus problems, and general software issues. It was my job to oversee the smooth workflow and efficiency of all employees. Together with the other managers we have successfully improved the customer experience for all students and faculty who require our services. As a part of Rescom with software expertise I designed and deployed an all encompassing program which utilizes and improves upon the tools that Rescom uses on a daily basis. With this tool, I have improved both the technicians and managers experiences working with customers by providing many easy access and user friendly tools to expedite the customer relationship and assistance process. At Rescom we are all a team and together we have made a difference for all students and faculty who need assistance with their computers and network.
  • Penn State University
    Game Developer
Penn State University May 2013 - Nov 2013
    Pennsylvania State University
I was hired by the professor John Gastil to refactor the work he had done early on to make a simulation game of a political campaign. He had started but never completed the game in Visual Basic and had wanted to improve and broaden the experience. The experience is focused on the management of resources and use of tactics to outmatch your opponent. The opponents are controlled via a computer simulation of common strategy used in real political campaigns. The user is capable of running at a senate, congressional, and presidential level with each focusing on varying objectives and goals.Ultimately schoolwork was too intensive and I had to remove myself from the project. Last I heard the project was passed on to another developer and continues production.
  • Penn State University
    Application Developer
Penn State University Apr 2012 - Aug 2012
I was hired as a developer to improve upon the homework material provided to students through the Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection's online course work. This class more commonly known as EGEE 102 provides a strong foundation for learning how to improve the environment through green initiatives.Specifically the work that I did was improve upon the user experience for students taking the course. As a student who had taken the course already I understood in what ways I as a developer could improve the coursework. The most important contribution I made was providing a back end service which was capable of saving and restoring the information on the student's submitted assignment to be reviewed later as study material as well as recalled and loaded in the application for much easier revising of the assignment. The application was written in Flash utilizing Actionscript 2.0 on a PHP web page to make the server calls to the SQL database and subsequently the course graders. In addition to providing students with this improved experience I learned a lot about the practical implementations of PHP and SQL in regards to their interaction with embedded applications.
