About Brandon Hernandez

Born and raised in the Land of Enchantment, I am a Mechanical Engineer employed in the Petrochemical Industry in the Houston Area with over eight years of experience. My name is Brandon Hernandez, and I graduated from New Mexico State University in 2013. Throughout my post-college career I have developed a background in Project Management, but the majority of my experience has come from positions in Process Safety Management and Unit Operations. As a Project Engineer, I supervised cross-functional project teams on over 20 long-term projects utilizing a phase-gate methodology. Experience ranged from project planning, project budget estimation, and determination of alternatives during initial phases to design reviews, approvals, and funding acquisition through middle phases. I also gained experience in construction and commissioning of completed projects. As a Process Safety Management Engineer, I was a champion of process safety excellence and operational discipline at my plant. Through my role, I was responsible for all 14 elements of OSHA 1910.119 at a large petrochemical facility. Through my role, I developed proficiency in Management of Change and Facility Siting, as I was the engineer directly responsible for managing these programs. I also functioned as the facility's Operational Excellence Coordinator, with responsibilities that included performing internal audits and conducting gap assessments against company policies and procedures. My most recent experience has been in Operations at two different units at a large petrochemical manufacturing facility. My first role was at a terminal/storage unit, which contained process equipment and 20 wells/salt dome storage caverns designed to store hydrocarbons and brine. My second role was at an ethylene unit that produces 4.5 MMlbs/day. My top priority at these units was to ensure safe operation of the equipment and processes. In addition to daily process troubleshooting and optimization, I fulfilled other engineering responsibilities such as managing projects, conducting mitigations for bypassing equipment, and ensuring compliance with process safety and environmental regulations.Competencies: Influential Leadership | Management of Change | Process Troubleshooting | Facility Siting | Expense Budget Management | Incident Investigation | Process Safety Metrics and Reporting | Procedure Management | Process Hazard Analysis | Standard Operating Procedures | Project Management.I always enjoy networking, please feel free to reach out to me on LinkedIn or through email at bmherna@gmail.com.
