Responsible for development and introduction of a variety of consumer focused robotic floor cleaning robots. Grew and managed a team of engineers in development of new technologies and platforms for next generation of robotic cleaners. Expanded the R&D infrastructure, including and optics lab, machine shop, laser cutter, 3D Printers, etc. Led development of the next generation of low cost Lidar systems used for navigation.

Newark, Ca

Oraya delivers noninvasive robotically controlled treatments for inflammatory and neovascular diseases of the eye. Matt created product concepts and renderings that helped secure seed funding for the company. He designed, built and programmed a Cartesian robot for early X-Ray energy characterization. As Director of Product Design, he designed x-ray beam shaping hardware and opto-mechanical sub-systems that both guide and track the position of the eye. He selected and lead several design teams that created the first functional clinical and early commercial system still in use today. He managed industrial design, user interface design and mechanical human interface that launched Oraya's 2nd generation system. As one of three members of the advanced R&D group, he developed third generation robotics and X-Ray beam delivery systems for future products. Matt was responsible for the Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, and Graphical User Interface of a complex medical system used in targeting radiation for the treatment of prostate and breast cancer. He led a team of 12 internal and external engineers from product concept to finished design in 18 months. Design solutions included exotic composite structures, compatibility with high energy radiation environments, and complex electro-mechanical sub-systems. He also led the development of an integrated image based 3-D tracking system, and maintained FDA compliant design process and documentation. As Vice President of Product Development, Matt was responsible for leading the Mechanical and Industrial Design teams to completion of SoftBook’s IDSA Gold award winning electronic books. These were the first eBooks ever designed and built, paving the way for the now hugely successful product category. Matt planned and executed the product development schedules, sourced major custom components, managed international tooling and manufacturing programs, and ramped two 1st tier contract manufacturers to high volume production. Softbook Press was later acquired by Gemstar TV Guide International, which was in turn bought by News Corp.

As Vice President of Engineering, Matt was responsible for growing the Mechanical Engineering Dept. from 4 people and $400K annually, into an exceptionally effective and profitable team of 15 people generating over five million in gross revenues for FY' 96. He personally directed multiple design teams to the successful completion of numerous consumer oriented products. He authored and implemented frog's integrated design process, knitting industrial design, graphic design and engineering into a highly marketable, creative and efficient team. He spearheaded frog’s leap into multimedia and graphical user interface design as core competencies, identifying firms and nurturing an acquisition which led to the establishment of frog’s highly successful office in Austin, Texas, generating over 65% of frog’s revenues in ‘98.

Matt was part of a small group of managers responsible for the product design, industrial design, and prototyping of the first PowerPC based RISC computers, code named Hurricane and Jaguar. During that time, Matt aggressively promoted solids based CAD/CAM to reduce time to market. He helped launch the first notebooks and sub-notebooks Apple ever made, and drove the engineering of the DuoDocks and accessories from concept to ramp in 14 months, directing a team of 11 engineers and consultants. The Duo product family won 15 major awards including "Best products of 1992" from Business Week, Fortune, Time, and US News. He drove the concept, and managed the design of the ergonomic "split" keyboard that became the Apple Adjustable Keyboard. He invented and prototyped a force feedback, three axis mouse (before mouse wheels existed), and managed the development and design of the interface software. Matt was granted seven Apple patents.
