About Ben Herron

Contract Alias modeller with 5 years experience as a designer at JCB. and over 7 years in Bentley Motors as a CAS modeller.I have a strong practical approach and I pride myself on being a straight talking, to-the-point hard worker, who’s always happy to be 'hands-on' and involved. I very much believe in a holistic design approach, enjoying everything from design research & concept generation to the technical side of design for manufacture. I strive to build & further develop my strong design management and CAD skills.I have a knack for fixing things, love customising & taking things apart and learning how to fix/put them back together, be it cars, bikes, computers, gadgets, appliances or furniture.

  • Jcb
    Senior Industrial Designer
    Jcb Feb 2015 - Oct 2015
    United Kingdom
A senior industrial role within a 10 stong Design team, supporting JCB projects from 2D concept generation to 3D production cad data.Apart from the day-to-day 'monotony' that was designing the interior and exterior design of some of the most awesome and technically challenging machines, my other duties included (but definitely not limited to) ergonomics, vector iconography, trend analysis, colour and trim, photo manipulation (or photobodging), lots of mood boarding and general visualisation of whatever anyone, anywhere in the company asks for. Working in a real go-to department, that was constantly in demand, definitely tested my core skill flexibly. This was highly valued due to the small size of the team and often included unusual requests. All my skills were used, challenged, improved and i was often been forced to learn new ones at short notice. The small team has meant being thrown in the deep end, managing several projects of my own from day 1, expected to get on and do the job, constantly interacting with teams of engineers, suppliers, marketing & sales, test site developers & machine specialists. Not to mention high-level interaction with all levels of executive staff, including the Bamford family, which I was privileged to be involved in and with despite my relative inexperience in the job/company. In my senior role I was expected to mentor and guide junior staff as well as take more responsibility in design reviews for projects involved in. I also took charge of sign-off roles for production parts, including colour tollerancing and texture mapping.

  • Sjb Office Installations Limited
    Part-Time Furniture Installer
Sjb Office Installations Limited Jun 2008 - Jul 2011
An awesome job to come back to from University, so much better than the normal student pub job. Lots of travelling around the London & Essex area, lugging large desks, cupboards and various other bits of heavy office furniture up impossibly small flights of stairs and then having to assemble it to floor plan designs. Lots of team work, leadership, time planning and organisational skills gained. Glad to be paid to build flat-pack furniture, working with a great bunch of guys who are always more than happy to have a laugh at your expense and also losing some uni weight in the process.

Started working in a few pubs to pay off the beer tabs. An interesting learning curve to say the least. I believe I learnt a lot of my teamwork and people skills during this time and gained a huge understanding, empathy and respect towards barstaff in general. The Oak, Inn CoventryThe White Heart, ChelmsfordThe Bulls Head, Binley, Coventry
