Sr. Ux Writer & Content DesignerOdder Duck Mar 2020 - Nov 2022The InternetHave you ever gone freelance *right* before the whole world comes to a grinding halt? I don't recommend it. And yet, thanks to my incredible network and a little bit of pluck, I managed to glide along for a few years on two rubber wings and a prayer. Ask me about Tableau Conference. -

Sr. Writer, Cloud Marketing Brand Content StudioAccenture Apr 2017 - Aug 2018Greater Seattle AreaI wrote clear, accessible copy about analytics and data services, AI, and quantum computing. And, as one of the first writers in the studio, I served as a mentor and reviewer for my colleagues.I was named Consultant of the Month in May 2018 for embodying drive, accountability, partnership, transparency, and curiosity.✱ I worked for Projectline Services, sister company to Yesler, which was acquired by Accenture in April 2020. -
Senior WriterPossible Jan 2015 - Mar 2017Greater Seattle AreaOver my six years at POSSIBLE, I learned how to design digital work that puts people first, how to present well to clients, and how to lead a creative team even when I’m not the official lead.I was also on a few multibillion-dollar pitches that raised the agency’s profile, and I was hand-picked to serve on a shadow board of employees who helped drive the business plan for the Seattle office. -
WriterPossible Aug 2011 - Jan 2015Seattle, WaI wrote and edited copy for a wide range of clients, including Microsoft, BECU, KB Home, and Coca-Cola. Whether the copy was for a microsite, a tutorial video, or a form, I aimed to stay on brand while respecting our audience’s time and attention.I also loved working with UX designers, content strategists, and creative directors, and I took every opportunity to absorb as much of their knowledge as I could. -
Copy InternPossible May 2011 - Aug 2011Greater Seattle AreaI worked on a bunch of accounts, but I got especially close to Microsoft. During this internship, I wrote social-media copy, web copy, and co-branded banner ad copy for several groups there.I also edited thought-leadership blog entries, white papers, and a sales presentation for another major client.✱ I did this internship back when the place was still called ZAAZ. -
Executive Assistant, AdvertisingThe Seattle Times Jul 2008 - Aug 2011Greater Seattle AreaOver three years, I supported three different Advertising VPs—each with a unique style and set of needs—while also supporting about 120 people with payroll, reporting, and event planning.I was in this position when the Joint Operating Agreement with the Seattle P-I was dissolved and we had to untangle our budgets. I was still in it when, later, the Great Recession upended those new budgets. Using that experience, I compiled the department's 2011 budget with minimal oversight while we were between execs.I also helped to prepare the department for an impending move while the exec position was vacant. As the department representative, I attended space-planning meetings with execs from other departments and discussed issues on my team’s behalf, shared updates with staff as they became available, and laid out our new seating plan. -
Editorial Intern, Advertising PublicationsThe Seattle Times Sep 2010 - Nov 2010Greater Seattle AreaDuring this internship, I got hands-on experience with copy editing, developmental editing, headline and deck writing, brief writing, proofreading, and designing layouts for print. Some of the headlines that I wrote ended up in the paper.(Quick note of gratitude: This department didn't actually have an internship program, but managing editor and amazing mentor Kristi Barnes let me design one for myself that she and her editors ran with.) -
Editor And DesignerSaltwater Quarterly Nov 2010 - May 2011Greater Seattle AreaI helped a writer friend start a literary journal devoted to publishing works by writers from underrepresented communities. As we launched, I created a print design from scratch that complemented the journal's content. I then built an accompanying website with a customized theme that was consistent with the print journal's design. For the four issues we published, I made sure that our journal's information was correct, laid out the journal's contents, and copy-edited poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction for Chicago style while respecting each author's artistic license. I also added a way for people to order the journal from the site and updated the website each quarter to feature sample works. This experience opened me to new perspectives and important lessons that I still carry with me.

Sales Associate, Major & National AccountsThe Seattle Times Apr 2007 - Jul 2008Greater Seattle AreaI worked with some of our biggest clients—including Macy's, Fry's, and Bartell Drugs—to make sure their ads actually ended up in the newspaper, in the right section.Doing that meant entering those orders and then checking every system entry against the client's paperwork. I was pretty good at talking to the clients, but I was especially good at entering their orders accurately. I won an internal award for that. -
Sales Support Assistant, Major & National AccountsThe Seattle Times Nov 2006 - Apr 2007Greater Seattle AreaI supported the sales director and sales reps who handled our biggest accounts, which included editing our sales reports for consistency and accuracy.I ultimately reworked that reporting process to be less tedious for the sales reps who had to fill out the reports, for the managers and admins who had to compile them, and for the people who had to read them. I won an internal award for that. -
Assistant Manager, Logistics AdministrationIkea Group Apr 2006 - Nov 2006San Francisco Bay AreaI made a good impression while I was helping to plan a new store, which led to a promotion that took me to California.I learned how to hold my own as a manager who was also the youngest person on the team, and I quickly discovered that what I really wanted was to finish my degree.I gave two months' notice and created a tabbed, indexed, 200-page binder of tutorials and information that helped the department pass a corporate audit with flying colors after I left. -
CoworkerIkea Group Jan 2001 - Apr 2006Greater Seattle AreaI survived ten twice-a-year sales and countless holiday weekends in a variety of roles around the store.Along the way, I learned what people need at nearly every step of a literal purchase path, how to construct a logical flow of both products and human behavior, and how to prioritize items given limited space.I also defined a new, more efficient process for counting the inventory in new shipments and then trained the teams who would use it.
