Legislative Council Staff is the nonpartisan research agency for the Colorado General Assembly. I prepared objective memoranda on topics of interest to state legislators, often on tight deadlines, and also contributed to and presented portions of the "Blue Book" voter guide on statewide election issues. As the Senate Judiciary Committee staffer, I conducted long-term research on criminal justice issues, including sentencing reform, juvenile justice, parole and corrections policies, and the legalization and regulation of marijuana. I provided guidance on legislative procedure and responded to questions about committee activities from legislators, lobbyists, government officials, and members of the public. As a fiscal analyst, I analyzed the potential impact of criminal justice legislation on state and local revenues and expenditures.
