A brand new Advancement office at a charter school needed to lay the financial foundation for future growth and development. I began by cultivating individual donor relationships, setting up and managing the donor database, organizing events, and writing fundraising copy. Later, I worked to create synergy through community partnerships and raise support through writing and managing foundation grants.

This organization needed mission focus, leadership development, and teaching. For 18 fantastic months, I led the organization, managed ministry programming, provided regular preaching & teaching, and gave pastoral care & counseling to a congregation composed primarily of people recovering from addictions and those living on the social and economic margins.During this time, numerous people from a variety of demographics became involved with the church and the organization moved further toward its goal of internal sustainability. Simultaneously, I served as site coordinator for the Salvation Army. When the site extension's original leader left, I took the position for 18 months.I recruited and managed a team of volunteers to raise and distribute all funds for the Salvation Army's assistance work in Jefferson County, IA. This allowed for a smooth transition, no loss in revenue, and continued community engagement.

When I started at the US office, it needed to stabilize its major donor base, probe more deeply into its prospects, and establish an institutional giving stream. I wrote and managed a range of public and private grants, wrote major donor solicitations, directly solicited major donors, spoke at multiple donor events, designed and used outcome and impact measurement schemes, and served as the primary communication liaison between field and donor thus navigating multiple and complex relationships.During my time at the organization, it more than doubled its annual income. I got along so well with this company that I worked for them a second time as a researcher and copywriter, helping them to communicate effectively with donors and donor prospects.
