I helped two graduate students and one professor with their ancient Swahili mitochondrial DNA research. During the spring of 2013 I did some of my own work using their data. I examined the mitochondrial DNA of modern Swahili people from the coast of Kenya. This involved DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction, running the samples through acrylamide gels.

I photocopied archival documents for patrons and paged archival manuscripts and rare books for patrons. I also filed most of the Burke and Dean section of the Chicago Photographic Collection.
