CurrentThe Laidlaw Research and Leadership SCholarship provides funding and opportunity for formal research, leadership development, and international development work.RESEARCHI performed background research to help with the design and use of simulations to aid in the chemical analysis of pallasite meteorites to investigate planetary and solar system formation. Here, I learned to manage my time effectively and divide time between separate projects.LEADERSHIPI fully engaged with the leadership coaching provided by experienced seniors and put my learning into action in my other projects (LURA) and an international development program that I delivered in Zambia in 2022. My program, KickSis, focused on supporting women and girls to build healthy relationships and learn self-defence. To make the program sustainable, I engaged with locals and trained them to run sessions. This helped to develop my interpersonal and communication skills, given that language and cultural barriers presented challenges. My biggest achievement from my project in Zambia was the delivery of my Aspirations two-day residential workshop during which I spoke in front of ~30 young women and girls and facilitated several activities and games to help them think about their skills and their futures. The short-notice preparation and lack of resources meant that I had to be adaptable and creative. I was responsible for the logistics of the two-day session including arranging transportation, meals, mini-trips, workshop activities, and guest speakers. This was a huge task to undertake in a foreign landscape and I am very proud of the outcomes which can be found on my profile.
