I cover concerts, entertainment and things to do, focusing on the ways in which pop culture enhances Hoosiers' quality of life.

As newsroom development director, I manage philanthropic partnerships to expand and support IndyStar journalism, coordinate community engagement efforts and oversee our holiday charitable giving program, Season for Sharing. I also manage the Star’s summer internship program, the Pulliam Fellowship, and spearheaded our partnership with the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting to add a summer intern to our investigations team. Beginning in October 2023, I also resumed my position as an interim editor, working with the Star’s arts and entertainment team and coordinating coverage of the 2024 NBA All-Star Game and the total solar eclipse.

In this role, I managed anywhere from two to seven reporters covering beats ranging from trending and GA to transportation. I worked with them from pitch to publication to develop story ideas, find the best sourcing and edit for copy, content and presentation. This includes breaking, daily and enterprise reporting. I also planned, coordinated and executed our news and entertainment coverage of the Indianapolis 500 and managed the development and production of IndyStar's Fall Arts Guide.I also catalyzed the Star's fundraising efforts to support our journalism and explore new revenue sources, leading the Star through the Local Media Association's second cohort of the Lab for Journalism Funding. I also oversaw development and fundraising for our Report for America efforts and cultivated relationships with foundation partners and other funders.

As IndyStar's social services reporter, I wrote about issues affecting Hoosier children and families. I took particular interest in the areas of food and housing insecurity, fostering and adoption, child abuse and neglect and health care access.I also oversaw the planning and execution of the 2019, 2020 and 2021 Season for Sharing campaigns. The 2019 campaign raised over $100,000 that was granted to early childhood education providers in Central Indiana. The 2020 campaign resulted in a $150,000 contribution to the African American Legacy Fund of Indianapolis to support programs serving Black and brown youth and their families. The 2021 campaign resulted in $120,000 given to local youth-serving organizations to help them grow and stay afloat amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

From January to April, I covered breaking news at night, responding quickly to events as they unfold across the city. My responsibilities extended to nearly every coverage area of the newsroom -- city/state government, public safety, crime, local/state/federal courts, arts and entertainment. Beginning in April, I transitioned to a mostly general assignments role, picking up news features, covering COVID and occasionally filling in on breaking news. I was among the team that covered the social/civil unrest that gripped Indianapolis in early June 2020.

I was IndyStar's "make-you-cry reporter." I covered nonprofits and charities in Central Indiana and the inspiring folks who worked to change lives and make a difference in our city and state. I was (and still am) always trying to restore your faith in humanity. Toward the end of my time in this role, I also did some general assignments work and filled in on critical beats as needed, including covering city hall and the 2019 mayoral election.

While I was primarily focused on covering crime and the police department as part of the Star's public safety team, I also wrote about courts, business, politics, pop culture and entertainment.

I covered general assignments in the growing communities of Carmel, Fishers and Westfield and pitched in on breaking news and crime coverage.

I led a team of reporters, editors and photographers as we assembled IU's Arbutus yearbook. I was involved in every aspect of production, including leading pitch meetings, training reporters, editors and designers, designing pages and editing stories. I led the staff through a period of rebuilding and transition, as the program moved from a fall to spring distribution, moving our final deadline from May to February and decreasing the book size from 350+ pages to 288. The 2016 Arbutus was selected as one of 11 finalists for the Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Award, one of the top awards in collegiate journalism.

As editor-in-chief, I led a staff of editors and writers in the IDS newsroom. This included managing a staff of desk editors, reading story drafts, designing and editing page proofs and managing social media accounts. I wrote content for the sports, region, arts, campus and Weekend (pop culture) desks and trained new reporters as they transitioned into the newsroom. I was also responsible for creating special publications including Orienter, Parent Survival Guide, Freshman Edition and Source Campus Visitor Guide. As editor-in-chief, I was responsible for the oversight of all IU Student Media brands.

As GA editor, my responsibilities included working with new reporters as they make their way into the newsroom, showing them the ropes and working with them to develop their writing and reporting skills before they join the main desks. As Special Publications editor, my job included pitching, generating and editing new and reused content for the Indiana Daily Student special pubs, including the Housing and Living Guide, Source Magazine and the Little 500 Guide.

As Region editor, my job was to pitch, edit and process stories through our content management system for publication in the student newspaper. I worked with a team of beat reporters and a co-editor to generate content for the daily paper as well as our website, idsnews.com. I was also voted "best editor" by my colleagues.

I worked on internal communications and external marketing campaigns for Indiana University Health South Central's regional hospitals, primarily IU Health Bloomington. My responsibilities included researching and writing copy for promotional materials, copy editing and feature writing for internal newsletters. Additionally, I wrote announcements regarding hospital developments, programming and events for media release.

As an editorial intern for Morris Visitor Publications in London, I worked closely with editors on its three publications: Where London, IN London and London Planner to produce publications for tourists and visitors to the capital. My responsibilities included writing social media chatter for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, writing and editing copy and tourism listings, making public relations contacts and writing feature stories. Examples of various assignments include food reviews, event coverage and features. My byline appeared in Where London August and September 2014; London Planner July, August, and September 2014; and translated in IN London Arabic and Chinese editions.

During my time as a general assignments reporter, I was assigned to cover various events and happenings within the community. Throughout fall 2013, I worked as IUSA beat reporter, pitching, reporting and writing three or more stories a week about the IU Student Association, the University's undergraduate student government.

My responsibilities included pitching, writing and editing features for the arts, business and outdoors sections. I also edited pages for copy and design errors.

I wrote 400-500 word columns on a variety of topics for a bi- or tri-weekly deadline.
