I'm the news editor at the Indianapolis Business Journal, a locally owned weekly covering Indy's vibrant and thriving business community. Prior to joining IBJ, I spent 8 1/2 years at the Indianapolis Star, where I worked my way up from summer intern to newsroom development director, managing philanthropic and community partnerships to support our work. As a reporter, I covered issues including public safety, nonprofits and philanthropy, city government, social services and pop culture and entertainment. From 2022-23, I was in an interim editing role, leading a team of reporters that covered a variety of issues ranging from transportation and infrastructure to pop culture.

Wells Society for Investigative Reporting to add a summer intern to our investigations team. Beginning in October 2023, I also resumed my position as an interim editor, working with the Star’s arts and entertainment team and coordinating coverage of the 2024 NBA All-Star Game and the total solar eclipse. -

I also planned, coordinated and executed our news and entertainment coverage of the Indianapolis 500 and managed the development and production of IndyStar's Fall Arts Guide.I also catalyzed the Star's fundraising efforts to support our journalism and explore new revenue sources, leading the Star through the Local Media Association's second cohort of the Lab for Journalism Funding. I also oversaw development and fundraising for our Report for America efforts and cultivated relationships with foundation partners and other funders. -
Social Services ReporterThe Indianapolis Star Jul 2020 - Feb 2022Indianapolis, Indiana, United StatesAs IndyStar's social services reporter, I wrote about issues affecting Hoosier children and families. I took particular interest in the areas of food and housing insecurity, fostering and adoption, child abuse and neglect and health care access.I also oversaw the planning and execution of the 2019, 2020 and 2021 Season for Sharing campaigns. The 2019 campaign raised over $100,000 that was granted to early childhood education providers in Central Indiana. The 2020 campaign resulted in a $150,000 contribution to the African American Legacy Fund of Indianapolis to support programs serving Black and brown youth and their families. The 2021 campaign resulted in $120,000 given to local youth-serving organizations to help them grow and stay afloat amid the COVID-19 pandemic. -

Editor-In-ChiefArbutus Yearbook Aug 2015 - May 2016Bloomington, Indiana AreaI led a team of reporters, editors and photographers as we assembled IU's Arbutus yearbook. I was involved in every aspect of production, including leading pitch meetings, training reporters, editors and designers, designing pages and editing stories. I led the staff through a period of rebuilding and transition, as the program moved from a fall to spring distribution, moving our final deadline from May to February and decreasing the book size from 350+ pages to 288. The 2016 Arbutus was selected as one of 11 finalists for the Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Award, one of the top awards in collegiate journalism.
