About Holly Sheets
I have worked with varied data over my astronomy career: ground-based optical light curves of binary stars and cataclysmic variables; space-based exoplanet transit light curves; optical spectroscopy of cataclysmic variables, as well as high-mass stars in the Small Magellanic Cloud; infrared spectral cubes of the lunar South Pole from the Deep Impact/DIXI mission. I pioneered the use of stacking in exoplanet light curves to tease out an average, weak secondary eclipse signal from small planets in the Kepler Space Telescope data set.I also have spent 59 nights observing cataclysmic variables with the 1.3m and 2.4m telescopes at MDM Observatory, without night assistants. I spent many nights at the Gettysburg College Observatory collecting photometry of the eclipsing binary star V1061 Cygni, as well as 16 nights as part of a team of students collecting photometry of asteroids and rapidly rotating stars in the Pleiades at the National Undergraduate Research Observatory, which is part of Lowell Observatory.

With IRAF/Pyraf and MATLAB, reduced and analyzed optical spectra of high mass stars in the Small Magellanic cloud with infrared excesses to determine their spectral types and whether the excess was likely due to compact HII regions, excretion disks, or possibly debris disks from planet formation. With IDL, analyzed infrared spectral cubes of the Lunar South Pole from the Deep Impact/EPOXI spacecraft to remove the reflected solar light and the thermal background to characterize the 3 micron band due to hydroxyl. With IDL, transformed and stacked the secondary eclipses of many similar exoplanets in the Kepler database to tease out a very weak signal to set albedo limits on 3 size ranges of planets.
