Three Oaks Mine - Central Texas

Manage the mine engineering department at Three Oaks Mine; this is a 7.5 million ton per year mine operated in central Texas by Luminant to supply two 650 MW power units with fuel. The engineering department is responsible for all planning, production reporting, and project design and works closely with the Operations and Environmental departments. We coordinate with other entities within Luminant including Safety, Permitting, Maintenance, Operations Support, Project Management, and Cost Accounting to ensure successful production of fuel meeting both quantity and quality requirements.

I was responsible for dragline and pit planning which included range diagrams, production forecasts, computer modeling of the deposit, and coal quality projections to meet the consumption needs of 4 power plant units located near Rockdale, Texas. I worked with a team to provide permit renewal and revision submittals to the Railroad Commission of Texas for the Sandow Mine. I supervised drillers, surveyors, technicians, and other engineers. I helped coordinate the production transition from the Sandow Mine to the Three Oaks Mine located near Elgin, Texas as the Sandow mine became uneconomical to mine and a new mine (Three Oaks Mine) was permitted and developed.

Rockdale, Texas

Began my post-college career at this position working in the maintenance department of the Sandow Mine. I spent 3 years working on improvement designs for heavy equipment and draglines. This included installing the first bulk lubrication systems on 2 BE 2570W draglines and then compiling and teaching a lubrication class to the mine mechanics. I then moved to mine planning and worked on all aspects of surface mine operations and planning, including mine modeling and scheduling. I spent a large portion of time in data analysis and efficiency improvements. I prepared designs for diversion and ponds for submittal to the Railroad Commission of Texas. I worked on short term, long term, as well as life-of-mine plans.
