We develop and improve on life skills while building long lasting relationships with peers and mentors. As I dive further into VietLead's work, I started to understand what it means to serve and be there for the community. I had a chance to interviewed businesses around Washington Avenue to understand their struggles due to the gentrification on Washington Avenue. Through that, I was able to serve the community delicious cuisine from those businesses during our organization's Documentary Screening. Show less

I worked with a fellow intern, Sanai Bryant-McPherson. Our supervisors were Dr. Mark Sabaj Perez, Dr. Mariangeles Arce, and Dr. Kyle Luckenbill in the Ichthyology Department of The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. As an intern, I get to work with a variety of catfishes. Every week, I get specimen to study their characteristics and sort them. As an intern, I get to work with a variety of catfishes. Every week, I get specimen to study their characteristics and sort them. Then, I prepare the correct spatial resolution on the X-Ray machine depending on their size. The raw images are then edited on Adobe Photoshop and labeled with proper name and date. I also counted the specimen vertebrae and kept a record on Microsoft Excel. Smaller specimen were cleared and stained in a chemical process over two weeks for better visualization of their cartilages and bones. All images are available online on the ANSP Ichthyology website. I interned with Dr. Maureen Tang of Drexel University to learn about Spotted Lanternfly and create fun a manual on how to eradicate their eggs. After learning the engineering design process and several failed trials, I created a simple instrument out of syringes and springs and using physics to find the pressure of squishing the eggs. In June of 2022, I presented the manual at the American Society of Engineering Education in Minnesota.
