I devise campaign goals and strategy, identify audiences, and align and manage account teams to leverage communications, media relations, paid advertising and lobbying to build coalitions and activate constituencies to achieve client goals which typically include winning projects and passing (or not passing) laws. I engage directly with reporters and editors to pitch and manage earned media coverage; develop paid advertising and media strategies to reach target audiences (TV ads, social media ads, sponsored content); serve as a spokesperson for clients, speaking on the record in both print and broadcast; and advise clients on executive communications inclusive of media training for TV and print interviews.

I served as a senior advisor to Chancellor Nancy Zimpher on media and legislative strategy for the largest public university system in the United States (64 campuses). I was responsible for managing all of the Chancellor and system administration’s media relations inclusive of events, statements, press releases, and serving as a spokesperson.

In this role, I oversaw all communications and external affairs for the office of the Governor and 89 state agencies and authorities. I was responsible for managing the Communications office, leading briefings, drafting talking points and speeches, organizing and staffing events, working with the governor's protective detail, managing the press, and coordinating with policy staff. I managed all incoming press inquiries, fielding dozens of inquiries each day.I managed media and messaging strategy and crisis communications through moments of chaos including the 2009 New York State Senate leadership crisis and contentious budget negotiations of 2010 that threatened to shut down the government every day between April - August 2010.

Notable stories included Governor Spitzer’s executive order issuing driver’s licenses to undocumented New Yorkers; the Troopergate scandal, a political surveillance controversy; and Hillary Clinton announcing her 2008 presidential campaign.

I served as the primary live reporter and was assigned lead stories for top-rated news station within the media market. While at 22News, I transitioned from sports reporting to political reporting within this role with notable stories that included covering Hurricane Katrina in Galveston, Texas; New England Patriots Super Bowl XXXIX victory; and 2004 Red Sox World Series. I won four Massachusetts Broadcaster Association Awards including ‘Best Newscast.’

I wrote and edited feature length documentaries and promotional segments for the second largest Public Television affiliate in Virginia (formerly WVPT). During my time at WVPT, I won three Telly Awards and received an Emmy nomination for The Appalachian Trail: The Beaten Path.
