Manages internal and external communications for the SVHEC. This includes developing and implementing policies and procedures for agency communications; developing and implementing effective marketing campaigns to increase awareness of the SVHEC and its programs; serving as webmaster with content responsibility for two domains (svhec.org and rdcamee.org). 2010-2013, I worked with SVHEC leadership and design consultants to manage the agency’s rebranding efforts.

As programs manager I managed program outreach efforts, supervised two program coordinators, provided academic and career counseling services to students. Demonstrated an ability to work well with diverse groups of people by serving as a college-student liaison for the SVHEC’s academic partners.

As career counselor I worked with students to determine their academic needs and goals, and helped them select the program that best fit their career goals. This included working with academic partners to understand program options available, and administering and interpreting career and personality assessments. I also represented the SVHEC at academic fairs, open houses, and other recruiting events.

The Middle College program provided GED services to young people 18-21 years of age. As the administrative assistant I served as the first point of contact for Middle College students. This was an important role as students were returning to the academic setting for the first time in many years. I provided friendly, courteous customer service, handled all office communications, maintained confidential student records, and served as a substitute GED instructor when needed.

As the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Out-of-School Youth Case Manager I worked with young people 18-22 years old who were low income and had an additional barrier to success (academic problems, housing, parenting, etc). I worked with partner organizations to recruit new clients, and determined client eligibility for the WIA Out-of-School Youth program & enrolled clients in the Virginia Workforce Network. As case manager I maintained frequent verbal and written communication with clients; maintained accurate, confidential client files; and administered supportive services to clients.

My responsibilities as office manager included managing accounts receivable and accounts payable using Quickbooks accounting software; handling all bank transactions; and designing and maintaining the company website. I also obtained my salesperson license through DMV, and completed car sales transactions.

As an educator for Charlotte County Public Schools I taught speech (2002-2003), US Government (2003-2004), and World Geography (2004-2005). I developed and executed daily lesson plans in accordance with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) using current instructional methods and technologies; read, synthesized, and disseminated information from visual, print and Internet sources for students; and interacted with a diverse student population as instructor, mentor, and advisor. I completed proficiency exams in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, and used Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook on a daily basis. I was also selected to serve as a faculty representative on a committee to remedy county-wide health insurance problems.
