Manage, develop and enhance Macmillan’s Online Community as an essential service for people affected by cancer.The Macmillan Online Community is Europe’s largest peer support community. A group of 76 communities arranged by cancer type and cancer experience - it is my responsibility to keep the community safe and supported. I manage 2 Online Community Officers and run a community programme that supports over 50 online volunteers. I have long experience in crisis management, safeguarding issues and the customer service requirements of running large, 24/7 online communities. I manage the relationship with our external moderation company and supervise the work of the out-of-hours moderation team.I set up Macmillan's Ask an Expert section - the largest and most popular in the UK - where nurses and health professionals answer questions from community members.I also manage the UK's first online ‘Digital Nurse’ - Ellen, who coordinates an expanded Ask a Nurse area to give information and advice to people worried about their diagnosis and treatment. I set up a series of themed monthly events where a team of experts answer questions around a single topic – beginning with Ask about breast cancer in October 2017.I set the vision and strategy for the community. I ensure that the forums are safe and supportive, manage the moderation of the site, set the editorial strategy and oversee a team of 30 Community Champion volunteers and 25 health professionals. I set budget for, and run marketing campaigns that have helped the community double in size and activity. From June to Sep 2017 - secondment to the role of Digital Engagement Manager at Macmillan.Responsible for a team of 11, I led the Online Community, Social Media and Brand Digital Campaign teams to inspire and encourage access to Macmillan’s services and online support.
