About Tony Hsu

I grew up without "guidance" from my parents. Let me explain that...My parents were immigrants from Taiwan who came to pursue "The American Dream" of working their tails off and making a better life for themselves. Through blood, sweat and tears they were able to build a well-known and respected chain of Chinese restaurants over a 30-year time frame in the Westchester County, NY area. But this meant they worked 14–16-hour days 364 days a year. Which is why at almost 40 years old I don't truly know my parents. We didn't have meals together.We didn't go on vacations together.We didn't have meaningful conversations.We didn't celebrate birthdays.We didn't celebrate holidays.We didn't do much of anything.They simply didn't have time. I know these likely hits home for many others out there with similar stories. But let me explain how it affected me and why nobody needs to feel sorry for me.What their hard work afforded me was an upbringing in a good community of people with strong character and similar drive. I was able to grow up around friends who had the drive to succeed in their future careers and who's families most of the time had stories of work and determination which afforded them the life they had. My parents showed me the blueprint to being successful. They showed me what hard work can get you. I may not have always known everything I needed from Day 1 of a new company or industry, but I knew that in just a short amount of time I would. Why?Hard work is ingrained in me. It's what I grew up with.It's what I know.It's what you'll get from me.I'm grateful to my parents for what they did because I wouldn't be the award-winning commercial professional I am today. I've adapted and excelled in different roles from Sales Manager to Account Executive, Account Manager, and Customer Success Manager while changing industries. I couldn't have survived without my experiences. Today, I'm with a purpose-driven company at UL Solutions bringing focus to important work in sustainability, ESG, energy, indoor environmental quality and much more within the built environment. It's the cultivation of my last 10 years within the real estate industry building relationships, learning the ins and outs from the owner/developer down to the property and facility management. I'm grateful for the place I've found myself in and even more grateful for the relationships I've grown.
