Caledonian Life is a protection specialist insurer selling through brokers in the Republic of Ireland.Royal London acquired this business as part of the transaction with Royal Liver and I was appointed MD.I formed a new management team and during the first six months we overhauled the products, reinsurance arrangements, commission structures and processes. We gave the business a new focus and drive and significantly improved the trading position. Caledonian Life is now an established and profitable business within the Royal London Group.I left this role when promoted to the Group Executive of Royal London.

Management anf P&L responsibility for the UK new business functions of Resolution covering Scottish Provident and the bancassurance distribution through Abbey.Resolution had acquired these 'open' businesses through a transaction to acquire the back books from Abbey and I was recruited to run them.I brought together the various parts of the business - marketing, sales, pricing etc - which had been separated. Created a team culture and a focus on performance resulting in increased market share and profit.Resolution sold the closed businesses to Pearl and the open books to Royal London.

Responsible for delivering value through transactions between Prudential and other life companies or pension schemes (typically bulk annuity or pension scheme buyout business).Led a small team of highly skilled professionals delivering a significant percentage of Prudential UK's profit.Completed several £1bn plus deals including an innovative with profit transaction. Put in place ongoing annuity vesting deals in addition to bulk transfers.Worked very closely with the UK Chief Actuary and fund management team in creating the deals.

Responsible for the design, pricing and management of Prudential's investment and savings products in the UK.Managed Prudence Bond, the UK's largest selling with profit bond, delivering strong results for customers and Prudential.Designed a new transparent approach to with profits, PruFund, which was originally utilised for with profit bonds and is now used much more widely by Prudential. Developed a unit linked bond product offering customers a choice of internal and external fund managers which gained significant market share and generated a new profit stream for shareholders.In this role I was a Director of PruLab which was responsible for delivery and management of all of Prudential's products in the UK. The role involved close collaboration with colleagues from Sales, Customer Service, Actuarial, Fund Management etc in a matrix management structure.

I was sponsored by Scottish Amicable at university and gained experience working summers with them in customer service, accounting and actuarial departments. I joined as an actuarial student following graduation and carried out all of my actuarial training with Scottish Amicable.In my twelve years with the business before it was acquired by Prudential I worked in Actuarial, Pensions, IT, Claims and Product Development gaining a wide range of experience of the business.In Product Development I designed, priced and launched products with a particular focus on savings and investments. I gained a strong reputation for delivery working with colleagues around the business.
