Pitched, hired and managed the company's data science / DataOps team, which delivered:- a new data infra for user data and content sourcing, and a sunsetting plan for what it replaced- a time-series data utility evaluation framework which correctly identified relevant credit card signal for market forecasting- a point-in-time company-tradename knowledge graph used to identify which company benefitted from user-sourced transaction data- a consumer trends visualization feature in Delphia's app leveraging all of the above- user research based on Delphia's app events and self-declared user personal attributes, leading to the identification of a True Fan user persona by the product team- modernizing the internal hedge fund's own data infra (which used to be a massive pain point for them), taking example on ours- news clustering logic for the app's content pipeline, leveraging SOTA in document processing and management- an internal data documentation website, updated automatically when changes were made to our data processing pipeline, setting an example for data governance- (consenting) user data collection from various websites (Amazon, Walmart, etc) and apps (Robinhood, Twitter, etc), including websites that actively tried to prevent such data collection

- Spent 3 months in a start-up house in San Francisco for Y Combinator.- Led the technical pitch for a pilot project with a major institutional hedge fund, which we successfully set up.- Led analysis and client presentations with two major hedge funds over the course of two pilot projects.- Led project to find signal in Twitter purchase intent/evidence as detected with NLP methods. A major hedge fund found that it was additive (ie orthogonal and useful) to their feature set.- Dropped into a newly formed internal hedge fund, learned enough about quant investing to understand the portfolio strategy and implement it along with the backtesting framework, resulting in a codebase that correctly allocated 100s of millions of dollars monthly and served as the experimental framework for continuous strategy improvement over time.- Designed the convex optimization problem used for portfolio construction for both our hedge fund and our retail investment advisor service. One key achievement was to eliminate exposure to various known investment factors while avoiding destroying the alpha of the input predictions. This was achieved through a custom loss function in the optimization problem.- Flew to various locations to meet with potential collaborators and explain our investment process.

As the senior student researcher in Dr. Carl Stahmer's group, I acted as project manager and tech lead of the research team in the Digital Scholarship Lab. Our team worked on various problems and produced a mix of client-facing products, like our interactive large-scale text analytics report generator, and research results, like image matching over very noisy scans of historical documents.We also provided data services to faculty members on campus and I handled part of the product design / service packaging task.

During my short time as hired Data Analyst at Wanted, I completed two high impact projects.1. Improving the language detection libraryThe language detection library had trouble dealing with texts in more than one language, which compromised the very first step in Wanted's NLP pipeline. Wrong language attribution in multilingual texts was reduced by 80% to 100%, depending on the languages present in the texts.2. Resume parsingIn one month, I developed a program that handles all text formats (txt, PDF, doc, etc) and performs at least as well as the solution sold by Sovren, the leading resume parser provider.

My internship project was to develop an automatic desired-skills extractor from job offers that could find skills that the company is not yet aware of, for example the name of a programming language mentioned for the first time. The machine learning system I ended up creating automatically identifies over 30% of previously unseen skills in over 600 job offers per minute and relieved the company's CPO of the tedious task of manually finding and adding new skill detection rules.

I worked in the team that handled the technical side of the FQRSC-funded research "Appropriation du vocabulaire spécialisé par les francophones : canaux de diffusion et modes d’intégration", directed by Bruno Courbon.The project involved scraping a 5 billion word corpus from online forums, efficiently storing of the results, and creating a search user interface that could query the whole dataset in less than 2 seconds.
