Worked directly with former North Carolina Court of Appeals Judge Robert N. Hunter, Jr. Assisted in the research and preparation for, and drafting of the appellants brief in an interlocutory appeal. Researched and assisted in the drafting of briefs in support of partial summary judgment and in support of an award of attorneys’ fees in a civil rights case, applying both applicable federal and state law. Reviewed the requirements to be an eligible member of a class in an upcoming class action lawsuit and advised the corporate client on their next steps. Researched jury verdict and settlement awards in tort cases.

Assisted the Judge in the decision making process on cases by reviewing the briefs, the record, and researching relevant legal issues and then writing a bench memorandum for the Judge summarizing the case and making a recommended disposition. Drafted the opinion for a pending case. Assisted in the opinion writing process by reading for clarity, as well as providing edits and comments. Participated in case review meetings with the Judge and law clerks where we discussed cases scheduled for upcoming oral arguments as a group, reviewed the facts of the case, and posed questions about the case to prepare the Judge for oral argument. Gave oral presentations on the facts and relevant law of the cases I worked on.

These tasks included researching and preparing presentations on the proposed and new NCCA legislation, researching the benefits and challenges that will arise from new NCAA initiatives, and ensuring that all coaches comply with the relevant recruiting legislation.
