As a Principal DevOps engineer, I was brought in to help establish a DevOps culture in the organization while working with the team to support and develop our solutions running in Microsoft Azure. This includes presenting on industry standards, providing guidance on solutions and projects, and redesigning many commonly used systems for improved efficiency.Pushing to mature our Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementations, I have helped lead our team in the efforts to take most of our resources that had little-to-no IaC coverage and implement full IaC coverage. This resulted in greatly improved reliability and overall confidence in our infrastructure, but also a far more efficient upgrade processes.I regularly work with stakeholders from Architecture, Security, and our development teams on high priority projects. Offering guidance on best practices adhering to the DevOps philosophy, I've guided several efforts across the company in areas related to infrastructure design, system management, and CI/CD pipelines.I was heavily involved in the presentation and adoption of GitLab across our organization. Working with Security and leadership, I helped ensure for a smooth migration from a self-hosted Bitbucket environment to GitLab.com. I have also been the primary individual responsible for the development of systems dedicated to the management of our entire GitLab setup including connecting Jira service desk to GitLab projects for automation execution.A large portion of my time is dedicated to the support of my team members, providing feedback on proposed solutions and mentoring them in their professional growth. I was hired to help organizations who were clients of Rackspace with their cloud adoption efforts. I helped support architects by developing architectural diagrams for AWS solutions, giving presentations and leading Q&A sessions to clients on proposed solutions, and general, overall implementation.One main project I was involved in revolved around helping a customer's internal teams migrate to a GitLab-based IaC platform with prebuilt solutions that had been developed by other Rackspace engineers over the course of the previous years.

I was brought in originally as the only DevOps Engineer of the Atlanta branch of Piksel. I immediate set out to document current infrastructure followed by the improvement of the architectural design, CI/CD processes, and security while enacting cost reduction. All of which were achieved.The infrastructure utilized Terraform as its IaC. After documenting existing setups and relationships between resources, I updated the Terraform code base, improving upon existing modules as well as creating new ones.I was given a Junior DevOps Engineer who I worked with to implement many improvements in the overall systems. We worked together to establish a learning path for him to gain more experience and certifications, while I provided one-on-one sessions covering AWS services and use-case scenarios.We standardized the environments by providing custom AMIs, based on a CIS hardened image, for the servers to run against. This reduced our infrastructure from multiple OS versions spread across different environments down to a single version. This saw an immediate security and performance benefit.We implemented autoscaling utilizing a combination of dedicated and spot instances.We converted our multiple Puppet libraries over to a single Ansible library, simplifying server management greatly.I was responsible for updating our systems to be ISO compliant, ensuring proper security was in place. This also included my direct participation in the ISO review where I was responsible for answering inquiries about our infrastructure to verify compliance. We successfully met all expectations and requirements.Our continuous deployment tool was GoCD. After a few iterations our deployment process suffered from less errors and quicker deployments, saving time and frustration.I participated in daily scrum standups updating the team on progress and goals.Each month, I provided a report of our AWS costs as well as projected costs for the months following based on historical data.
