I am President of the West Virginia Chapter of ABOTA. ABOTA is an invitation-only organization requiring members to demonstrate significant litigation experience including at least 10 civil jury trials. ABOTA is a leading organization in the fight to preserve and protect Americans’ Seventh Amendment right to a civil jury trial, support judicial independence, and promote civility and professionalism by members of the bar and bench.

I chair Jackson Kelly's firmwide General Litigation Practice Group, which represents individuals and businesses in complex litigation arising from serious personal injury and wrongful death. Our Health Care Group focuses lawyers from across the firm on two interrelated industries in an effort to better serve our clients in an ever changing environment. Our Litigation group represents businesses and individuals who find themselves embroiled in lawsuits.

Since 1992, I've been a member of ADTA, a national organization of defense lawyers limited to one prime member in cities with population less than one million. Membership is by invitation only. After a three year term on the Executive Council, I was elected Secretary in 2012, Vice President in 2015 and President Elect in 2016.

I teach classes on health law, medical liability and other medical legal topics to medical students, residents and physicians.

I served on the 2014 Trial Academy Faculty led by the great John R. Penhallegon. The IADC is a select international organization of defense trial lawyers.

The Foundation raises funds for and supports the Herbert J. Thomas Memorial and St. Francis Hospitals. I served three terms on the Board with two years as its President.

Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia is an association of over 500 West Virginia lawyers who primarily defend individuals and corporations in civil litigation. I served as a Board member and President, and a member of various committees. I continue to serve as the E List Editor, providing timely updates on opinions released by the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia.
