Bill Hutchison is one of the world's leading pioneers and authorities on the digital transformation of cities into Smart/Intelligent Communities. His background includes more than forty years of leadership in business transformation and a focus of more than twenty years on Smart Cities. Smart Toronto ’94 and Singapore’s Intelligent Island in ’97 were early client pioneers; subsequently both cities and many other global city clients have won the world’s top prizes for their “Smart/Intelligent” transformation. Bill is CEO of Hutchison Management International Inc, a firm that advises business and cities and Chair of i-Canada150, a national consortium of cities interested in pursuing social, technology and economic transformation and opportunities. He is a Partner and Advisor for “Creating Digital Opportunity” and “iCity”, two research projects at the University of Toronto, “U of T”, and he recently completed five years as Board Chair of a ten-university research program into new cloud and IoT architectures led by U of T. He has been the Founding Chair or Founding Director of fourteen not-for-profit industry and social service organizations including CANARIE, CATA, i-CANADA150, the National Advisory Board for Science and Technology, chaired by Canada’s Prime Minister, and KINSA, the Kids Internet Safety Alliance and he has created a number of business start-ups with successful exits.Bill received the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for Service to Canada, he is a Fellow of the World Academy of Productivity Science and other honours include: “Private Sector Leadership in Canada’s Advanced Technology Sector”, “Integrity and Professionalism in Information Technology”, and the Intelligetn Community Forum's first "Lifetime Achievement Award”. Bill is a professional engineer and a graduate of McGill University.
