On the job training Process EngineerProject: Nghi Son refinery and petrochemical ComplexKey duties:• Checking engineering documents to ensure that correct raw materials (crude oil, utilities such as Nitrogen, water, steam) are used and the refinery products such as gasoline, kerosene, LPG (liquefied Petroleum Gas), polypropylene meet international specifications and standards.• Ensuring that equipment (Heat Exchangers) meet the project’s philosophies and international safety standards so that they can achieve maximum efficiency under safe operating conditions.• Calculating, checking heat transfer efficiency and evaluating fuels used for Heat exchangers, Air Coolers and boilers in the refinery.• Joining HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) meetings to diagnose malfunctions in the refinery and recommending solutions to deal with safety issues.

Key Duties:Carried on the “Alkylation of Isobutane with C4 Olefins under Conventional and Supercritical Conditions” project including:• Prepared the mixture of raw materials (butane, but_1_ene, isobutene, trans_but_2_ene, cis_but_2_ene)• Prepared catalysts (pressed powder catalysts into pellets, crushed them and selected the 0.25–0.42 mm particle size fraction)• Heated catalysts in dry air flow and loaded them into reactors.• Monitored and controlled the temperature and pressure of chemical reactions• Analysed reaction products by GC coupled with GC-MS to identify their components.• Analysed results, made presentations and prepared research reports.
