Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine The Sheth Lab's research is focused on interrogating the gastrointestinal microbiota to better understand pathogenesis of diseases, and characterizing the metabolically important members of the microbiota. As a graduate student, I have worked to develop and validate a novel protocol which utilizes Fluorescent-Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) coupled with 16S rRNA Next-Generation Sequencing. This protocol distinguishes metabolically active and viable bacteria from quiescent and non viable cells within a poly-microbial community.

• Provided instruction to SHETH Lab students completing undergraduate thesis projects in microbiology and pathology; instruction included lab protocols, computer programs, coding skills, data analysis, data management, editing assignments and theses. • Served as teaching assistant to Professor Prameet Sheth for First Year Microbiology for Nurses, which involved marking, leading lab experiments, and explaining course concepts.

Analyzed test scores from Urology mock exam and broke down questions into eight subcategories in order to evaluate strengths and weaknesses from participants. This project was hoping to find correlations between sub category scores and the place of residency for each participant.
