I am a highly motivated and proactive specialist litigator with a wealth of practical experience and knowledge gained over 30 years of conducting all types of private client and commercial litigation, arbitration, and mediations before the Courts and other Tribunals in Scotland, the UK and internationally.As a Solicitor Advocate (Civil), I have extended rights of audience to appear before the Sheriff Courts of Scotland, the Court of Session, and the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. Head of the team which won Litigation Firm of the Year 2016 at the Law Awards of Scotland, I was the UK Winner of the ILO Client Choice Award 2013 for Arbitration and the UK Winner of the ACQ Global Award 2013 for Leading Arbitration Lawyer of the Year. I am also an Accredited Commercial Arbitrator.I am regularly instructed in relation to domestic and transnational disputes - to advise on and conduct complex and high value arbitrations, litigations and mediations in Scotland and internationally - including disputes in the engineering, construction, oil & gas, renewables, and property fields; and other general private client and commercial disputes. I also regularly advise on how to avoid disputes and how to manage disputes, if they do arise, with the emphasis always being on finding solutions that work best for clients – and being ever mindful of the practical realities of any given situation.Specialties: I have a particular expertise in International Arbitration, with a special interest in the energy sector, with experience of conducting arbitrations under both institutional rules e.g. the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA); and Ad hoc Arbitrations e.g. under the Arbitration (Scotland) Act 2010, the English Arbitration Act 1996, and the Norwegian Arbitration Act 2004.
