I am a mining geologist who has worked in Western Australia and Mongolia; on site in production and exploration, and office-based as a resource geologist. My key areas of experience and skills are:Resource Geology:I’m systematic, attentive to detail, self-motivated and hardworking; all key skills to being a good resource geologist. I have an interest in geostatistics, its implementation in describing natural systems, and ways to improve the reliability of estimates. I have estimated a range of commodities, including iron ore (hematite and magnetite), gold, nickel, and rare earth elements. Project sizes have ranged from small exploration targets to multibillion tonne deposits.Mine Geology:I began my geological career as a mine geologist, working for a number of years in both underground and open pits, particularly enjoying the unique work environment that underground mine geology represents. I have helped to develop and implement grade control systems, along with trouble-shoot performance issues between the resource model, grade control, and plant.Exploration:I have a keen interest in QA/QC procedures and processes, along with drill hole design and optimisation to ensure that money is spent efficiently, and that results are meaningful and representative.Teamwork and Leadership:I enjoy working in a team environment to achieve a common goal. I’m comfortable leading a group, but know when to defer to more experienced colleagues. My leadership style has developed since my training as an Officer in the NZ Army Reserves to a more participative one, preferring to guide a group towards the most appropriate course of action. However I still have the ability to give direction when warranted.Computer skills:I quickly pick up any software package I’m using, and am a skilled Surpac user, who enjoys writing advanced scripts to improve productivity. I also have experience using Vulcan, Supervisor, Isatis, MapInfo, and ArcGIS.
