Iain possesses a unique background, having practiced law in the United Kingdom before qualifying as an attorney in the United States. Qualifying as a Scottish solicitor in 1996, Iain has worked in private practice with a premier Scottish law firm and in-house with a FTSE 50 multinational energy company. In 2005, Iain was admitted to the New York and North Carolina Bars, and joined Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey and Leonard, LLP, a century-old North Carolina law firm, consistently recognized in Chambers USA as one of the best firms in the Southeast.Iain spends the majority of his time representing financial institutions and their holding companies on a variety of corporate, regulatory and operational issues. Iain’s experience includes the chartering of de novo banks, the conversion of mutual financial institutions, public offerings, private equity and debt offerings, corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory applications and enforcement matters, securities law compliance, corporate governance, labor and employment, executive compensation, commercial contracts, swap transactions and large loans. Iain has been named a Rising Star in Banking Law (2013) and in Administrative Law (2012) by North Carolina Super Lawyers.
