Feb 2011 - May 2013

Senior Software Engineer

n my role at Meteor I worked hands on as the owner of their client side Javascript solution. I handled all features and bug fixes, customer integrations, as well as being the engineer responsible for trouble shooting issues with browser compatibility, other APIs (such as jquery, prototype, and , etc ) and third party tools (such as Google Analytics, Webtrends, in house tracking, etc ). I was also responsible for prototype and research working on items such as Facebook, AS3 (Flash), embedding in Wordpress, etc I took on the role of quality control implementing several open source tools (jslint, rhino, etc ) to validate and regression test all features and tools ensuring an increase in stability and decrease in introduced issues. I worked with our sales teams and often directly with the customers which ranged from larger companies such as Microsoft and AT&T to smaller agencies and contracted engineers. I also worked on the user interface in PHP (with a customized version of codeignitor and non-cms) and then in Python (Django) to display data derived from Postgres and Couch databases in a manner that the sales team could use to 'tell their story' occasionally crafting custom queries to find data that supported our customers positions.

Sep 2009 - Jan 2011

Contract Software Engineer

Began this contract by creating a custom PHP forum system that enabled children chats to be monitored and edited. The technology was a Flash based children's game that integrated with the PHP driven site. The sites data came from a MySQL database. I integrated flash components as they were created by external vendors that I managed. The site was originally hosted on GoDaddy and I researched, negotiated, and then ported the site to a remote hosting service. In the process added logging and monitoring facilities, code versioning (Subversion), and created custom reporting tools for the company's owners. Contract was ended early, so the rest of the enhancements were laid out in an actionable product plan.

Mar 2009 - Jun 2009

Business Analyst

Seven Simple Machines

In this role I worked as the Product Owner with Agile development teams who were using .Net technology to build web tools for various customers. I worked with clients to understand their technical needs gather their requirements. I then worked with the Project Manager who handled time lines and scheduling to determine time-lines. Finally I worked with the development teams to make products that the customer wanted. I handled in house and customer site acceptance testing, delivered goods, and negotiated features. Keywords: Requirements gathering, Product Owner, Agile, Project management.

Jun 2008 - Mar 2009

Business Analyst

In this role I was on a team of analysts that were responsible for working with end users in a vast company wide upgrade of their internal systems from the original smalltalk to a new Java based system. My specific area was in the core system design where I worked with and supported the companies technical architects. I volunteered to lead small analyst teams to handle specific problem areas. Working with thirty year industry veterans taught me one of the most important lessons in software architecture; there is more than one right way to do things its a matter of which side effects you are best prepared to handle.

Aug 2007 - Jun 2008

Software Engineer

In this role I worked on the server side technology behind a system that delivered audio content (Podcasts) to mobile devices. I came in originally to port the Python infrastructure to Ruby, but after working with the language for several months found Ruby to be to immature of a language to support what we needed to do. In the process I was able to submit improvements to the signalling libraries of the language itself. My responsibility was to build a CORBA based Python system which searched the Internet for content, downloaded said files, organized, converted, and prepared them for streaming playback on customer devices. I used a multithreaded self balancing network model that allowed additional instances to be launched across hardware to 'catch up' should the need arise or if there was an issue. Built in monitoring and reporting was available as well. This was done across Linux machines using Mysql databases. We used CVS as our repository and a customized version of bugzilla for issue tracking.

Jun 2006 - Jul 2007

Software Quality Assurance Engineer

On contract I worked on the testing infrastructure. I used C and Python to create a test harness, wrote test cases, prepared documentation and generated a PHP reporting mechanism. I ran tests, interviewed, recommended for hire, trained and was the lead for the Quality Assurance team.

Jun 2003 - Jun 2006

Software Engineer

I began this position as a Software Quality technician running basic tests on hardware. I had various responsibilities with different teams. From developing tests, I developed several product lines including a graphic monitoring tool in Python, command line installation tools, and a Solaris system recovery system. I worked with larger teams on the companies flagship software product, a network disk replication tool. In my love of problem solving I was always chosen to work on particularly pernicious issues that were difficult to replicate and solve. I worked on self installing Linux installations, wrote and altered kernel drivers, and did direct hardware access routines in C/C++. I also built the companies web based procurement system and a barcode scanning system for inter-department tracking of work orders.
