SORBS - The Spam and Open Relay Blocking System - is an ongoing anti-spam project responsible for managing widely deployed mail filtering lists that are used to stop spam at mail servers all over the world.As part of my duties in this position, I wrote automated software to help resolve blocking issues for end users by interacting through the web based interfaces used by the human volunteers. This has allowed SORBS to significantly reduce the resolution times for cases related to listings.This position also allowed me to obtain first hand knowledge about how a DNSBL as large and widely used as SORBS, actually work and how those responsible for protecting millions of mailboxes perceive the issues of network operators and ISPs.
