AboutI have been lecturer and researcher at the Centre for Sociology, Faculty for Architecture and Spatial Planning (TU Wien) since 2008; and senior researcher at the Future Lab of TU Wien since 2016. Fields of InterestMy main fields of interest lie in understanding the various dimensions of global change, territorial innovation models, transformative practices in the digital transition and the emergence of new cultures and spaces of urban learning.Current focus of research: “Platform Urbanism”Since 2020, i am working on a self-organized research project called: "Digital Platforms, Civic Tech and the Co-Creative City – Spaces of radical change” (Case study: The civic tech ecosystem of Taiwan). A growing number of online platforms, mainly driven by globally operating tech companies, have started to reconfigure services, everyday life and urban space in fundamental ways. The form of urbanism these entities have begun to instigate has been termed by academics as “platform urbanism”. The proliferation of a new generation of collaborative technologies subsumed under “civic tech” are displaying the potential of bending the process of platformization towards a more participatory and co-creative direction. My research focuses on what policy and city administrations can learn from this process. Blog: https://digitalplatformsandthecity.blogspot.com/Recent ProjectFrom 2016 to 2020, I worked in a cross-disciplinary team of researchers at the TU Wien, studying the impact and the potentials of automated vehicles in the city of the future. The project was called AVENUE 21 and was funded by the Daimler & Benz Foundation. In the first phase, I was responsible for studying the strategies of socio-technical transition and institutional innovations taking place in five pioneering regions: San Francisco, London, Gothenburg, Tokyo and Singapore. In the second phase I conducted a) an in-depth study of the convergence of CAVs strategies and national spatial planning strategy (NSS) in Japan, and b) the challenges posed by digital platforms and the governance of CAVs. I co-edited two resulting books and co-authored several articles (see below).
