About Ian Buckingham

As a young lad I knew that I was destined for my life to be in and around sports. I have been fortunate enough to have such a helping family and from a young age I have developed the passion that my father and grandfather always had.Since 2003 I have developed my career in Coaching/Managing Football. My early education came through working as a Fitness Instructor/Supervisor. This gave me a good starting point to learn about training regimes and gain confidence working with new clients. From 2004 – 2011, I gained vast experience coaching/managing within Youth and Semi Professional clubs. My first experiences as a coach/manager started with coaching youth players at Major League Soccer Camps USA. I continued to gain further experience at Brentford Football in the Community Scheme and Advanced Development Centre. The technical experience helped me pass the FA Level 2 Award. From 2009, I moved in to coaching Semi Professional Men’s teams. This enabled me to develop my coaching further and increase my tactical knowledge. In 2008 I completed a Foundation Degree in Sport & Leisure Management. This course provided opportunities to study new areas. For example, Managing People and learning how a business operates. In 2009 I passed the UEFA B License at the David Beckham Academy. Since 2012, I have lived in Ontario, Canada. I had Three years working at Robin Van Der Laan Academy and currently in my Ninth year at Power FC Academy. The last Nine years, I have been in the role of Academy Director. I have had the privilege of leading many talented players and coaches and we have produced over 50 players for Canadian and USA College/University teams.

  • Hillingdon Fc
    First Team Assistant Manager/Head Coach
    Hillingdon Fc Oct 2011 - May 2012
    Hillingdon, Middlesex
After a period of coaching/managing reserve teams I decided that I wanted to take an opportunity in first team football. The consistency of a first team squad and identifying areas that can be improved was the key to my decision. I joined Hillingdon FC in October 2011 with the team struggling in the relegation zone. The club was competing in the Middlesex County Premier league for the first time and was up against some notable Non league teams such as Southall FC.My role was to organise and deliver training sessions and assist the first team manager in areas such as match day preparation, team selection and team talks. The challenge was fantastic and over a period of 5 months we had accumulated some very hard earned results. A total of 5 draws (x4 0 - 0 draws) and 6 wins the club survived relegation by 6 points.
