In my role as research assistant, I worked on two different projects.1. EEG Signal analysis of recordings from sleeping toddlers with autism. As part of this project I analyzed 4-8 hours of overnight EEG recordings performed at Soroka Medical Center. Analyses included artifact rejections, filtering, quantification of power in specific frequency bands during different sleep stages, and ERP analyses of responses to auditory stimuli that were presented to the sleeping children.2. Building a motion capture system based on 4 Microsoft Kinect infrared depth sensors. As part of this project I designed a motion capture system that can identify the movements of up to two interacting individuals without the use of any markers. I started the project with one depth sensor and then adapted the system to work with 4 depth sensors simultaneously, for automated 3D capture of 24 joint locations in each individual. The system was built using 5 computers that had to be synchronized in order to simultaneously capture the information from the 4 Kinect sensors. This required that I write dedicated software using C++ utilizing the Windows API. After recording the data from the four cameras I implemented software by iPi studio (iPi Soft Inc) to model the body movements of the recorded subjects by extracting the 24 joint locations of each subject over time. This system is currently operational and being used to record interactions between a clinician and a child during ADOS assessments (45 minute autism severity test) performed in Soroka on a daily basis. Moreover, I used the joints location to calculate several parameters according to ASD related symptoms and used them to design a diagnostic model for autism. This project was presented at INSAR 2018 (Rotterdam, Netherlands).
