I was an academic in universities (in Brisbane & Darwin). I am an anthropologist by trade, with a background in ecology and archaeology. However, for the past nearly 30 years my research has concerned sex industries in Asia, most notably Vietnam. I lived in Vietnam for 14 years (2004-17) but now based in Melbourne, Australia. I also write novels, mostly quality literary fiction, with a pinch of dark humour. 5 published:The Theory of Relativity (2012;2014)Hanh Dien (2015)King of the Woods (2015)Vuk (2016)Crocanthropus (2022).And in addition, a literary Memoir:Ms Vui in Australia (2017).I have had my book MS rejected by a couple of publishers (who never read it), and various papers rejected by journals. This has led me to pre-print publication websites. However, I cannot be accepted by most of them as I have no institutional email address. Much to my pleasant surprise, SSRN (Social Science Research Network) accepted me: Independent Scholar. I am putting up papers there (n=42; views >6000; downloads=1224 to date). Amazing what can happen when you don't have to teach, examine, pamper pre-Copernican graduate students, or attend meetings & do administration. This continued into my PhD years, whereby the university system had introduced a setup of Teaching Fellows (half-time tutoring, while doing PhD). I did that through 1986, in which year I was upgraded to a Temporary Lecturer position, filling in for a colleague on Sabbatical Leave.I was also employed for one semester as a part-time Tutor at Griffith University.
