Trained as a Graphic Designer and in charge of a studio team of 7 by 25 I undertook a Diploma in Print Management which allowed me to develop further my understanding of the skills required to run a business. In 1990 I set up my own company, establishing Garthland Design and Print. I ran this successfully for 25 years, growing this business to a high of > £1m turnover with 15 employees. After successfully selling Garthland in 2016 to a competitor and with a personal restrictive covenant in place (as part of the conditions of sale), I took my career and skill set in a different direction. First I undertook temporary management of a former clients business, to allow his recovery from a health condition, working for 3 months in the North West England, ensuring the smooth running of a supply chain business. Next up a 1 year contract, again with a former client, as Marketing Manager to revamp their marketing strategy and oversea new product launches. From there a complete carer change. I was asked to cover a temporary role in a property sales and lettings business. l enjoyed the change of sector and this challange and was pleased it was made permanent and my role expanded to include business development. Nearly 6 years on the company now runs its Sales and Lettings as different departments. I am the Lettings Manager. Since January 2018 Lettings have achieved consistent year on year growth, between 15 & 20% pa (including during the Covid pandemic) without a significant increase in staffing. I am now a fully fledged property professional, qualified to Level 6 in Property Management, a member of ARLA and a landlord too, with a small portfolio of my own.
