This project, to the value of €40.67 Million, involves the construction of a 7 storey centre of excellence for successful ageing at St. James’s Hospital under a Design and Build contract. Enclosed on a 0.88ha site in the heart of Dublin, this 15,018 sq.m building involves significant diversions of existing hospital underground services and site clearance works, strengthening works to an existing basement on which part of the new structure is to be constructed, all before the construction of the pile supported post tension concrete superstructure. This construction method has not previously been used in the country on a building of this kind. The hospital continues to operate at full capacity during the course of construction which has further developed my experience of working on projects located in such sensitive environments as a live hospital campus.Some of the duties as a Site Engineer on this project include:• Setting out of all structural elements and undertaking as build surveys using a Trimble Robotic Total Station• Using Autodesk Building Information Modelling (BIM) Software to assist with the design process• Liaising with various members of the multidisciplinary design team as design issues were encountered on site and together deriving an appropriate and cost effective solution which conformed with design standards• Continuous inspection and authorization of compliance for various stages of the construction process. For example, interpreting bar bending schedules and reinforcement design drawings to determine the acceptability of structural reinforcement prior to formation of all structural elements• Holding daily co-ordination meetings with all sub-contractors on site

This recently completed facility is a Science Research and Incubator Facility for the Dublin Institute of Technology. "The Greenway Hub", was the first new DIT building to be constructed on the Grangegorman site. It creates a specialist research facility for the Environmental Sustainability & Health Institute (ESHI) and provides Hot House Incubation spaces (HHI) for start-up companies. A range of meeting places are available including one-to-one spaces as well as larger 6-8 people meeting rooms and a number of breakout spaces for informal meetings. The structure itself was a predominantly pre-cast concrete structure. Some of the duties as Graduate Engineer on this project included:• The setting out of all structural elements on site using a Leica iCon Robotic Total Station• The transferring and setting of levels as required• Assigned as sub-contractor owner to a number of sub-contractors on site, which involves ensuring all pre start paperwork is in place and dealing with issues that arise with each sub-contractor on site• Adhering to various concrete quality control and testing procedures• Preparing weekly progress reports and attending site co-ordination meetings
