Held multiple roles in product and engineering as part of ramping a new team from 6 to 180 people to build Honeycode, Amazon's no-code platform. As part of this effort, we pioneered fundamental innovations that unified Google-like collaborative spreadsheets with relational data models to make it possible to use familiar skills to build highly sophisticated apps. We also invented a new spreadsheet-like user interface model where the UI on a screen is linked to a cell in a collaborative spreadsheet. What we launched on day one was just the tip of the iceberg!

Took our work from Vital Reactor and co-founded Vital Labs with Tuhin Sinha and an outstanding team based on technology and processes developed in collaboration with Cincinnati Children's Hospital and the UCSF Medical Center. We developed a new medical device, care delivery process and platform for cardiovascular care. Our technology and strategy formed the core of Riva Health.

While at MIT I researched Cognitive Architectures (with the brilliant Professor Marvin Minsky), models of common-sense reasoning (the OpenMind project with Push Singh), statistical natural language processing, healthcare innovation via New Media Medicine (w/ Frank Moss and John Moore) and a deep dive into N-of-1 experiments for my PhD (w/ Prof. Frank Moss, Prof. Pete Szolovits, and Dr. Henry Lieberman). My dissertation developed a scientific model of discovery via crowdsourcing self-experiments to help individuals and communities discover and benefit from viable, individualized therapies.

Compass Labs was an NEA-backed startup that enabled brand advertising for online social media users. I joined the team to lead the development of algorithms and systems for large-scale analysis of natural language content across social media platforms. Compass used these signals to construct dynamic, near real-time profiles of population segments across social media providers for individual and population-level ad targeting and post-campaign reporting. After returning full time to my PhD program, I remained as an advisor until the team joined Yahoo! in September 2013.

We explored computational models of human cognition via systematizing constraints among representations of human sensory-motor facilities. Wrote and helped lead a large DARPA grant as part of DARPA's Biologically Inspired Cognitive Architecture program.

Managed software engineering in the Carrier Access Business Unit. Helped form the Mobile Handset Business Unit and create the first generation of 2.5G EDGE mobile chipsets.

Translated MIT research into high-performance, multi-core digital signal processors and telephony software for carrier-class voice-over-IP infrastructure. Acquired by Broadcom for $1.2B in late 2000 where I continued as the Director of Software Engineering for the Carrier Access Business Unit. Under the Broadcom label, Silicon Spice's products became the market leader with significant penetration in the US, Europe and Asia. A majority of US telecommunications traffic utilized our infrastructure in the early 2000's.
