About Ian Everett
To tell my story fully would involve life in five countries on three continents, wild tales of whitewater kayaking, cliff-diving and camping in the Malaysian jungle, and not-so-wild tales of work on a worm farm, a vineyard and even door-to-door sales. As there's not enough space to cover all that here, however, I’m going to fast forward to the career part, and that story begins with the Coconut King of Rarotonga.The larger-than-life character of the Coconut King, also known as Piri, inspired my first ever travel article. A couple of years penning articles for online blogs and national newspapers led to a career in public relations and destination marketing. Now, eighteen years on, my story-telling skills are focused on building engaging brands, by sharing their wild stories through insightful strategy and imaginative marketing.Through these skills, I've been able to guide the brand journeys of over 100 businesses, and as the head of the marketing and communications for Virginia Beach Parks, I now lead a team of storytellers. Together, we aim to inspire creativity and innovation in everyone we work with and everyone who lives in the Virginia Beach region. Our in-house websites, campaigns, content, design, innovation and engagement not only build brand community, but also help create real, tangible differences in our community that will last generations.
