The Boy Scouts of America is one of the most prominent values-based youth development organizations in America. The Boy Scouts provide programs for young people, which build character. The Boy Scout program helps youth become active citizens and encourages youth to concentrate on personal fitness and personal responsibility. I am primarily responsible for annual fundraising, membership recruitment, special events, program support, volunteer recruitment, sales, and marketing in the Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America.

City Year is an educational not-for-profit, which operates under the AmeriCorps umbrella. There are many responsibilities as a City Year AmeriCorps member, but most importantly it is about providing a positive environment for students who do not get to experience that often. However, there are a few things I did, while being an AmeriCorps member that I am proud of. I was selected to serve on City Year’s Communications Committee, which markets City Year to corporate sponsors, potential City Year members, and alumni through the use of blogs, social media, and events. I compiled and evaluated weekly student data to identify strengths and weaknesses in targeted interventions used to curb the dropout crisis. I provided over 600 hours of full time service to the students and city of Philadelphia and I Increased 8/9 student’s English and math grades by one letter grade.

The HOOD is a not-for-profit program, operated by the private, not-for-profit, corporation, Pathstone. The HOOD assists “at-risk” Chester County youth by providing GED preparation courses; workforce development; and various training and certification classes. My responsibilities include creating a Social Studies GED curriculum; assisting the GED instructor; proctoring mock GED tests; and assisting staff in new student orientation.
