Project Engineer in the Tonnage Projects department of BOC.As a member of the project team for the £4.8m relocation of the BOC hydrogen plant from Dalry, Scotland to Newport, South Wales, I was involved in the Hazard study 1 and Process Hazard Review (PHR) for this plant relocation, as well as providing contractor supervision during equipment removal.I produced the project definition, budget and programme that led to the installation and commissioning of a £290k customer hydrogen supply and storage system, and automated hydrogen trailer decant and filling facilities.

Technical Support Engineer in the Customer Engineering Services (CES) department of BOC. I worked on the standardisation of the CES installations to try and simplify the process for project engineers and thereby reduce the cost of installations in the long term. This involved the review and modification of the standard Process & Instrumentation Diagrams and performing design reviews and HAZOPs for each of these options.I also worked on the vessel filling over-pressure protection system, involving liaising with the supplier and the BOC procurement department, performing trials on various iterations of the equipment, and updating and issuing technical documentation.

Undergoing further investigation, I was able to identify the source of the problem and isolate it. This was both financially and environmentally beneficial to the site.

I was in charge of bubble size analysis of flotation cells using the newly acquired Anglo Platinum Bubble Sizer and software, with the aim of cell optimisation. I also investigated the effect of changing certain operating conditions on the regrind circuit, and pyrite suppression effectiveness in the cells.

Measuring and analysing the NOx gases given off of catalysts during their development phase, and design of a new experiment to measure the potential NOx emissions given off of these catalysts. I was also involved in the characterisation of dryers, measuring the flowrates through them and also modelling them on AutoCAD.
