Ian’s background covers the full project lifecycle and includes river modelling, economics, water supply and treatment, drainage design, landslip repair, flood walls and embankments, hydraulic controls and hydrometry, and reservoirs. This enables him to understand complexities and contribute to improvements throughout multi-disciplinary FRM and civil engineering design. He thrives on managing interfaces and coordinating buildable solutions. He works closely with and consults with Environment Agency operational users, technical specialists, project managers, contractors, external stakeholders and specialist suppliers to provide efficient safe designs. Ian regularly takes time out of work to volunteer for the good of the local community and is also training to become a Reservoir Supervising Engineer.

We carried out an accelerated-pace assessment of options for providing a flood alleviation scheme (FAS) for the village of Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire. The solution (unusually) includes major channel widening works, bridge replacements, building demolitions/modifications, ground anchors under a Listed church and (more usual) raised flood walls. We got from from early feasibility study to breaking ground in around 18 months, delivering the detailed design in phases to enable rapid construction progress. -
