Leading a wide portfolio of activities that included cadet participation in vocational education programmes, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, First Aid, Music, Sport and a Youth and Community programme.

Core member of a joint venture team based around Amey Group plc and Bovis Lend Lease bidding for a multibillion pound Public Private Partnership project. Key responsibilities were client relationships, stakeholder analysis, communications and transitional management, plus close involvement with master-planning, buildings design, security and the service support planning.

After Sandhurst, led Royal Engineers at troop, squadron, regiment and brigade command level. Towards the end of my service I was appointed the Engineer in Chief where my responsibilities included advising the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force on any military engineering having an impact on their operational capability: playing a key role in developing the concept of Building the Peace whereby the Government's Overseas Development Agency sought to utilise to best effect the combined efforts of military engineers, local engineering resources and international civil engineering companies to rebuild the infrastructure of those countries ravaged by internal strife: establishing within the Royal School of Military Engineering an international centre for training in mines awareness which was warmly welcomed by the charities and other agencies involved in this field: reviewing military engineer training and the selection and development of all Royal Engineer officers.
