Whose idearz? No doubt it’s a crowded market and unique selling propositions are hard to come by. But they do exist—if one knows where to look. I look to my client—and rightfully so. Their insights, big and small, are essential when the goal is to develop the next big idea and the one after that. And I’m the one who’s ready to turn those insights into big idearz.Who’s idearz? That would be me: Matthew Schiller. What can I say but somewhere along my forty-plus year career I began to consider myself more a marketer than an art director or copywriter or even creative director. Not really what I had expected since I received my BFA in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design in my hometown of New York and studied photography at Parsons Paris. Prior to that, I was enrolled in the Premedical Program at Clark University in Massachusetts. I began work as an art director for business-to-business advertising agency Hammond Farrell, in New York, working on many high-profile accounts such as Corning, GE, Panasonic, Schott North America and Swiss Telecom. I moved to the Bay Area to join Foote, Cone & Belding Direct West as senior art director where I worked with such clients as Adobe, Dockers, Hewlett-Packard, Levi Strauss & Co., Lucent Technologies, Sega and Teledyne. Three years later I joined Age Wave Impact to serve as creative director providing strategic planning; direct marketing television and radio; as well as on and offline advertising for American Express, Eddie Bauer, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, General Foods, General Motors, MyPrimeTime and PaineWebber. I then served as creative director for an Oakland-based website incubator—Brainrush—where I was responsible for the brand development of numerous websites; most notably CardStore.com, Pogo.com, and MySimon.comToday, I’m all about idearz.
